This model was introduced in 2014 as part of IWC’s revamp of the Aquatimer dive watch collection. The revamp saw a number of changes to make the watch more wearable on a day-to-day basis. The most notable change is that the bulky exterior bezel has been modernized, however there has been no loss in functionality. The bezel still ratchets, however this ratcheting action rotates the inner bezel. IWC calls this the SafeDive bezel.
The inner rotating bezel is controlled from the exterior via a sliding clutch (IWC SafeDive System).
