Watch Notes of the Week – Chronographs!

Chronograph Watch Notes

You probably already know a chronograph is essentially a watch with a stopwatch built in. In most cases, the chrono-seconds are mounted in the center, and the watch will have additional subdials for the minutes and hours. Below is a selection of Chronographs with some special notes on each! Enjoy.

Graham Silverstone Vintage 30 Chronograph

Graham 2BLFS.W06A
In today’s watch world all things old are new again. Vintage inspired designs have made appearances in a number of venerable watch brands. Graham is no exception. But they haven’t overdone it. The large luminous 6 and 12 markers have an aged quality to them as does the strap. However, the size is a modern 47mm and the hobnail finishing (Clous de Paris) of the bezel is rather timeless.

Omega Speedmaster ’57

Omega 331.20.42.51.01.002
The Speedmaster ‘57 is something of a throwback model with vintage elements borrowed from earlier Speedmasters such as the straight lugs, lack of crown guard and flat link bracelet. Inside, however, it is as modern as can be with Omega’s newest Caliber 9300 movement. Co-axial escapement? Check! Column wheel chronograph? Check! Silicon balance? Check! This model sits comfortably at 41.5mm, notably smaller than the new 44.25mm Moonwatch and much more in line with other timeless chronographs such as the original Moonwatch. This specific piece is unworn and complete with a considerable amount of factory warranty remaining.

Breitling SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph 44

Breitling A2337024/BB81
One of the first watches to hit on the retro revolution, the SuperOcean Heritage still manages to offer everything one looks for in a modern Breitling. The case is a modern 44mm, with a bright mirror finish on all facets. The black dial has applied markers with generous luminous and large hands. Even the retro Milanese style mesh bracelet (which Breitling calls the Ocean Classic) has been upgraded for the modern era with screwed links that integrate almost invisibly with the bracelet.

Panerai Luminor Chronograph

PanerPAM 310
This Luminor Chronograph is triple boxed and fully complete with even the original hang tag and rubber case protector making it great for a potential collector. The PAM00310 had a short production run of only three years and only 500 pieces each year (that’s 1,500 total pieces). You won’t find another one preowned more complete or in better condition. The movement has just been cleaned, oiled and adjusted and it carries a year of warranty.

Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL Chronograph

Chopard 168459-3019
Members of the Scheufele family (who own and run Chopard) have sponsored and participated in the Mille Miglia since 1988. This edition is unique for the dial’s perlage decoration. This 2010 Classic Racing model was made, appropriately, in a limited edition of 2010 pieces, but this particular piece was not purchased new until 2015, so it still carries a considerable amount of factory warranty.

Baume Mercier Capeland Chronograph

Baume et Mercier 6904
We don’t always carry Baume & Mercier, but the Capeland Chrono is a model we will almost always happily buy and sell in good condition. The design is timeless and simple, not too large or small and the Valjoux 7750 movement makes it reliable as can be. This version of the Capeland has a surprising, but not overwhelming amount of gold, making it a great daily wear, both stylish and sporty.
