
{"id":730,"date":"2014-03-26T16:55:50","date_gmt":"2014-03-26T21:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/?p=730"},"modified":"2014-12-10T14:27:23","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T20:27:23","slug":"new-rolex-watches-from-baselworld-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/new-rolex-watches-from-baselworld-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"New Rolex Watches From BaselWorld 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of 5am (CDT) this morning, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baselworld.com\/en-US.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">BaselWorld<\/a> is officially underway!\u00a0 To some, today is the Christmas morning of the Swiss watch industry.\u00a0 Baselworld is not exclusive to Swiss watches.\u00a0 Non-Swiss watches, jewelery, and watch &amp; jewelery equipment manufactures are also represented.\u00a0 In 2013, 1460 exhibitors from 40 countries and 122,000 visitors from 100 countries descended upon <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basel\" target=\"_blank\">Basel, Switzerland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many brands utilize the event to launch and unveil their latest creations, while other brands make press releases and work with journalists to push their watch news out ahead of the event with headlines including &#8220;Pre-BaselWorld&#8221; in them.\u00a0 ..and the Richemont Group uses its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/watches-at-sihh-2014\/\" target=\"_blank\">SIHH<\/a> event in January to launch their latest models for 16 different brands.\u00a0 Personally, I&#8217;m a fan of getting a huge blast of announcements at once.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many new watches, and we are here in our office 5000 miles away from the show so we need to rely on the manufacturer&#8217;s websites and some of the 3500+ journalists on the ground.\u00a0 So, without further ado, let&#8217;s check out some of the freshest timepieces!\u00a0 Today we will start with Rolex and cover other brands over the next week.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to 2004, Rolex kept <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/Rolex-Timeline-for-New-Models-and-Features\" target=\"_blank\">updates to their watches to a minimum<\/a>, but they are all about an increased pace on innovation and incremental improvements lately!<\/p>\n<h2>Rolex Milgauss &#8211; 116400GV Z Blue<\/h2>\n<p><a class=\"x-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue.jpg\" rel=\"x-img-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-731 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue.jpg\" alt=\"Rolex Migauss - Blue Dial, Green Tinted Crystal\" width=\"840\" height=\"1070\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue-471x600.jpg 471w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Migauss-blue-100x127.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am not sure what to think of this new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rolex.com\/watches\/baselworld-2014\/new-rolex-milgauss.html\">Milgauss blue dial<\/a>.\u00a0 It is always exciting to see new versions of old favorites, but I don&#8217;t think this dial will be much of a hit.\u00a0 The lack of coverage on this new model helps confirm my suspicion.\u00a0 In general, I do like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/list.cfm?Field=dial&amp;q=blue\" target=\"_blank\">watches with a blue dial<\/a>, but to me the green, blue, and orange just don&#8217;t flow. The same Milgauss with the black dial and green crystal is one of my favorite Rolex watches, so that may have something to do with my bias as well.<\/p>\n<h2>Rolex GMT-Master II &#8211; 116719BLRO<\/h2>\n<p>..And then there is the very <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Rolex+GMT-Master+Pepsi+White+Gold+BaselWorld\" target=\"_blank\">much covered<\/a> GMT-Master II with Pepsi bezel.\u00a0 Unfortunately for many aching to get their hands on a ceramic red and blue bezel will need to take out a second mortgage or wait a few more years (or indefinitely) as the model is only available in white gold at this time.\u00a0 The white gold Sub retails at $36,850, so the GMT will be priced around there itself, likely $1000-$4000 more due to the complications of the multicolored\u00a0Cerachrom bezel and slightly more complicated 3186 movement.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"x-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold.jpg\" rel=\".x-img-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lightbox alignnone wp-image-733 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold.jpg\" alt=\"Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold\" width=\"750\" height=\"955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold-471x600.jpg 471w, https:\/\/www.bernardwatch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rolex-GMT-Pepsi-White-Gold-100x127.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 &#8211; They are a respectful 39mm and have a &#8220;double bezel&#8221; which is one part domed, one part fluted.\u00a0 I found it odd they used a self-winding movement as the Cellini is traditionally the thinnest watch Rolex makes, thanks to a manual wind or quartz movement.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also interesting how Rolex does not indicate a caliber number to the movement!<\/p>\n<h2>Other New Rolex Models<\/h2>\n<p>Rolex has also introduced some new style variations to prior models while keeping the technology of the watches the same as last year.\u00a0 Models include a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rolex.com\/watches\/baselworld-2014\/new-rolex-sky-dweller.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sky-Dweller with &#8216;sundust&#8217; dial<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rolex.com\/watches\/baselworld-2014\/new-rolex-cosmograph-daytona.html\" target=\"_blank\">highly jeweled up Daytona<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rolex.com\/watches\/baselworld-2014\/new-rolex-datejust-pearlmaster-34.html\" target=\"_blank\">new Datejust Pearlmaster 34<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rolex.com\/watches\/baselworld-2014\/new-rolex-oyster-perpetual.html\" target=\"_blank\">5 new dials for the Oyster Perpetual<\/a> (3 for the 36mm 116000 and 2 for the 31mm 177200).<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for taking the time to read this post.
